Profile 2004 - Dan Connor (LB/FB)
Last season as a junior, he rushed for over 1,500 yards and 29 touchdowns. Defensively, he recorded 170 tackles and three interceptions in 15 games. Strath Haven High School finished the season 14-1 after losing in the state championship game. "I prefer to play linebacker," Connor said, "but I just want to get on the field at the next level. "I am a sideline-to-sideline guy. My motor is always running.
”At fullback, I hear people say that I am a ‘Mike Alstott’ type of player. But honestly, we had a great offensive line last season and I was the fullback in the wing-T so the offense was geared for me. I can catch and block well too.
”I just love playing the game of football. I just love the sport. I have been playing since the 3rd grade. It seems the game of football comes so naturally to me."
According to Connor, he is now sitting on 16 scholarships. That's pretty amazing considering it is only early April.
"USC, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa, and Notre Dame are some of the schools that have offered me. Right now, I like Penn State, Michigan, Tennessee, Notre Dame and Iowa. I am mainly looking at coaching staffs and talking with a ton of coaches and people. Stability is important and I am just looking to play for a bunch of great guys.”
So far, Connor has traveled to Penn State, Maryland and Syracuse for unofficial visits. This spring break, he will go to Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State to get a "feel for the coaches." Connor runs in the 4.55 range, bench presses 315 pounds and squats 500. His older brother Jim, was a long snapper for Boston College.
