Tough draft for UT
Denarius Moore

Posted Apr 26, 2011

If the folks who put together Lindy's Pro Football Draft magazine know their stuff, this is not going to be a fun weekend for former Tennessee Vols.

Lindy's projects that only two members of the 2010 Vol squad - tight end Luke Stocker and wideout Denarius Moore - will be chosen in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Stocker is ranked third among tight end prospects behind Notre Dame's Kyle Rudolph and Arkansas's D.J. Williams. The section on Stocker projects him to be a third-round draft pick, noting that he has "soft, reliable hands and a large catch radius with long arms and surprising body control." The review adds that Stocker "presents a big target" and "is a load for defensive backs to bring down." Under negatives, he is downgraded for being "a bit of a project as a blocker" who "lacks the upper-body strength to sustain and is too often discarded."

Former Vol Denarius Moore is listed No. 23 among wide receiver prospects and projected as a fifth-round pick. However, he is listed at 4.49 in the 40-yard dash. He ran a 4.37 on Tennessee's Pro Day March 11, which could raise his stock a bit. The analysis of him says he is a "well-rounded prospect" with "soft, natural hands" who "can snatch in traffic." In summary, the review noted that he "overcame terribly inconsistent quarterback play to establish himself as a legit NFL prospect during his senior year."

Outside of Stocker and Moore, Lindy's is doubtful that any other Tennessee players will be selected in this year's draft, which begins with Round 1 on Thursday night, continues with Rounds 2 and 3 on Friday, then concludes with Rounds 4, 5, 6 and 7 on Saturday.

Ex-Vol Gerald Jones, whose Pro Day times were in the 4.7 range, was not among the 39 wide receiver prospects mentioned by Lindy's. Tennessee's Nick Reveiz, productive but undersized at 5-feet-10, is not among the 21 inside linebackers mentioned. LaMarcus Thompson is not among the 25 outside linebackers profiled.

Kevin Cooper is not among the 14 fullbacks Lindy's listed. Chris Walker and Gerald Williams, two undersized defensive ends who probably project to be 3-4 outside linebackers at the pro level, are not among the 26 ends nor the 25 OLBs mentioned. Daniel Lincoln is not among the three kickers profiled; nor is Chad Cunningham among the four punters.

One-time UT signee Lee Smith, son of former Vol offensive lineman Daryle Smith, is ranked No. 10 among tight end prospects and tabbed a possible sixth-round draft pick. He signed with the Big Orange out of Knoxville's Powell High School in 2006 but wound up transferring to Marshall, where he started in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
