Safety Janzen Jackson is back. That is one thing Tennessee fans have been waiting to hear since last February.

The University of Tennessee Athletics Department announced Wednesday afternoon that the Vols standout defensive back has returned to the football team.

The Lake Charles, La. native has proved to be a vital part of the Vols success in just two short years. Jackson has racked up 103 tackles and six interceptions since arriving on Rocky Top.

Jackson has enrolled in second session summer classes, which begin this week. The explosive defender is expected to be a full participant in Derek Dooley’s upcoming fall training camp.

Jackson missed spring camp after announcing he was leaving the team last February due to personal problems.

"We are continuing to support Janzen as he addresses his personal issues during this temporary withdrawal from school," Dooley said in a release by the school. "While he would still be eligible to compete if he enrolls this fall, nothing is more important than Janzen's personal well-being."

The re-emergence of Jackson on the Vols roster will provide Derek Dooley with the freedom to play ball hawk and Bednarik Award watch list player Prentiss Waggner at corner rather than safety.

Waggner, who recorded five interceptions, resulting in three touchdowns, filled in for Jackson at safety during spring practice.

Jackson has played 23 games in the orange and white, including 22 starts. The Vols safety earned Second Team Coaches’ All-SEC honors in 2010.
