The teachings of Dave Serrano and his coaching staff are beginning to echo across Lindsey Nelson Stadium on the campus of the University of Tennessee more and more often.

The Tennessee Volunteers took part in a pair of scrimmage games this week as official fall baseball practice progresses for the first time with Dave Serrano as the leader.

The roster has 18 returnees from the 2011 team.

While a 25-29 record and 7-23 mark in Southeastern Conference play were nowhere near acceptable for a program like Tennessee's, the team at least went into the offseason on something of a high note when Andrew Toles smacked a walk-off single to cap a 4-3 comeback victory over Auburn.

Moving forward, this program has no intentions of seeing its season end with 10 days left in May.

The Vols open up regular season play by hosting Northern Illinois on Feb. 17-19. However, much is to be learned between now and then.
