SEC picks

Posted Dec 30, 2011

Tennessee isn't among the nine SEC teams participating in post-season action this year but that didn't stop InsideTennessee staffers from making their annual bowl picks.

Chris Price won the regular-season picks title with a record of 78-18. Danny Parker finished a game back, Randy Moore two games back and Josh Woodward four games off the pace.

What follows are the bowl picks, with each staffer's final regular-season record in parenthesis:

CHRIS PRICE (78-18)

Dec. 30: Mississippi State vs. Wake Forest (Music City): I am going to take the SEC in this one. Mississippi State is going to run their way to a victory. 35-10.

Dec. 31: Vanderbilt vs. Cincinnati (Liberty): I think that Cincinnati has improved since getting their teeth kicked in by Tennessee. They will by hyped to play an SEC team. Bearcats, 38-24.

Dec. 31: Auburn vs. Virginia (Chick Fil-A): This one isn't really hard in my opinion. I think that Auburn just outmatches the Cavaliers. War Eagle, 42-24.

Jan. 2: Georgia vs. Michigan State (Outback): I will take the Dogs. 21-17.

Jan. 2: Florida vs. Ohio State (Gator): I think a lot of Ohio State players are going to be very anxious for their last bowl game, but I still don't think it's enough. They are a few years out from being able to compete with the SEC. Gators, 31-14.

Jan. 2: South Carolina vs. Nebraska (Capital One): I am going with Nebraska in this one. They had a solid year and came up a bit short. Not in this one. Huskers, 41-20.

Jan. 6: Arkansas vs. Kansas State (Cotton): Arkansas, 34-13.

Jan. 9: LSU vs. Alabama (BCS title game): This Tide gets the better of them in round two. 12-7 Alabama.

DANNY PARKER (77-19)

Dec. 30: Mississippi State vs. Wake Forest (Music City): Starkville natives get a chance to attend places of business that stay open after midnight. State, 30-14

Dec. 31: Vanderbilt vs. Cincinnati (Liberty): Two teams bowl-less Tennessee beat playing one another in a bowl. Odd. Vanderbilt, 37-25

Dec. 31: Auburn vs. Virginia (Chick Fil-A): Tigers squeak this one out with a solid-average ground game. Auburn, 45-40

Jan. 2: Georgia vs. Michigan State (Outback): Jarvis Jones, Dawg defense set the cannons off in Tampa. Georgia 18-17

Jan. 2: Florida vs. Ohio State (Gator): Yes folks, the Gator offense is that bad. Ohio State, 22-17

Jan. 2: South Carolina vs. Nebraska (Capital One): Tough one to pick. Which scrambling QB will gain the upper hand? Nebraska, 14-9

Jan. 6: Arkansas vs. Kansas State (Cotton): Tyler Wilson starts his campaign for the 2012 Davey O'Brien Award. Arkansas, 38-23

Jan. 9: LSU vs. Alabama (BCS title game): Skill overcomes championship experience for a second time. LSU, 10-8

RANDY MOORE (76-20)

Dec. 30: Mississippi State vs. Wake Forest (Music City): If the Demon Deacons couldn't beat Vanderbilt, I'm pretty sure they can't beat Mississippi State. Bulldogs, 31-21

Dec. 31: Vanderbilt vs. Cincinnati (Liberty): Tennessee beat Cincy a lot worse than it beat Vandy but the Vols were a much better team in September than they were in November. Bearcats, 34-27

Dec. 31: Auburn vs. Virginia (Chick Fil-A): Auburn gets a lot of its players from the Atlanta area, so this will resemble a home game for the Tigers. Auburn, 27-24

Jan. 2: Georgia vs. Michigan State (Outback): Mark Richt's rise from hot seat to hot shot continues. Dawgs, 24-20

Jan. 2: Florida vs. Ohio State (Gator): The Buckeyes only beat SEC teams when they're using ineligible players. Gators, 20-17

Jan. 2: South Carolina vs. Nebraska (Capital One): The Gamecocks tend to choke at bowl time but I'm an SEC homer, so I'm giving them a tentative nod. Carolina, 27-21

Jan. 6: Arkansas vs. Kansas State (Cotton): Petrino's Hogs are unbeaten except when playing No. 1 LSU or No. 2 Alabama. Razorbacks, 38-24

Jan. 9: LSU vs. Alabama (BCS title game): The Tigers have a better quarterback and a luckier coach. LSU, 17-10

JOSH WOODWARD (74-22)

Dec. 30: Mississippi State vs. Wake Forest (Music City):This game should be a cakewalk for Miss State, 45-17

Dec. 31: Vanderbilt vs. Cincinnati (Liberty): Cincinnati is a good football team and Vanderbilt isn't. Bearcats, 38-17

Dec. 31: Auburn vs. Virginia (Chick Fil-A): This is a great match up, but I see Auburn grab a close win. 28-27

Jan. 2: Georgia vs. Michigan State (Outback): Another classic match up, but Georgia has been playing really well. 28-20

Jan. 2: Florida vs. Ohio State (Gator): Urban vs. Urban. This should be an entertaining game, but I like Ohio State. 33-28

Jan. 2: South Carolina vs. Nebraska (Capital One): I don't think there will be much scoring in this game. Nebraska, 20-17

Jan. 6: Arkansas vs. Kansas State (Cotton): To me this could be a blow out. Arkansas, 49-17

Jan. 9: LSU vs. Alabama (BCS title game): The Rematch should be fun to watch. LSU, 14-10
