Elgrace Wilborn has been dismissed from the University of Tennessee basketball team following a recent off-campus incident. The Springfield, Ohio, native will remain enrolled in summer school at UT through August.

Wilborn, a 6-foot-8 forward, averaged 2.9 points and 4.7 rebounds as a sophomore last season for the Vols. He ranked sixth in the Southeastern Conference and led the Vols with 1.55 blocked shots per game despite averaging just 17.0 minutes. Against Georgetown in the National Invitation Tournament he tied a school record with six blocks.

"I have met extensively with these young men and the families involved," head coach Buzz Peterson said. "Let me say two things. First, I am very disappointed in one of our young men and the choice he made. Second, rest assured we are going to have discipline and accountability in our program and I am going to do the right thing for our program and the University it represents. We have met with Elgrace and have decided to dismiss him from the basketball team based on our findings in this matter. I am disappointed that Elgrace's career at Tennessee had to end like this. Despite the ending, his education is still a priority for both of us and he will remain here through the summer sessions attending classes. We wish him the best in his future in basketball and in obtaining a degree."

"We have had an unfortunate set of circumstances for all of the parties involved," senior associate athletics director Mike Hamilton said. "We have had several discussions over the last week and a half about this issue. Based upon these discussions, we have decided that Elgrace will be dismissed from the basketball team. We are appreciative of everything he has done for the team during his time here. We will continue to support him and want the best for him in his future endeavors."

"I am sorry to Brandon Crump especially," Wilborn said. "Also, I am sorry to his family for this incident."
