Ohio prospects visit UT

Evan Spanogians

Two members of the talented Lakota West High School football team of West Chester, Ohio will be checking out the University of Tennessee campus on Thursday.

One is junior Dane Romero, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound running back/defensive back who rushed for 1,100 yards last fall and intercepted three passes. Basically, he did everything but take a breather.

''He also led us in punt returns and kick returns,'' Lakota West head coach Larry Cox said. ''When you're in the toughest league in Ohio and you don't come off the field as a sophomore, you're pretty good.''

Another Lakota player who is scheduled to check out the Vols on Thursday is senior tight end Evan Spanogians. The 6-foot-4 1/2, 270-pounder projects to be an offensive lineman in college.

''Evan's a glorified offensive tackle,'' Cox said with a laugh. ''The tight end just blocks in our system. Tennessee likes the way he moves, though. I'd say he's a center/guard prospect at the next level.''

A third member of the Lakota West squad, Steve Rehring, was in Knoxville last weekend for the Phillip Fulmer Football Camp. Rehring is a 6-foot-8, 318-pounder who is ranked among the nation's top 10 offensive tackle prospects.
