Ethan Bennett drilled a Zeigler pitch over the left-field wall with two down in the bottom of the seventh for what proved to be the game-winning run for the Volunteers (10-3).
After a pair of fielding errors by the Warhawks and a run scored by Zach Luther, Drew Steckenrider brought Zach Osborne plateward with a sacrifice fly to up the advantage to 3-0. Chris Fritts made the second miscue hurt with a perfectly-executed squeeze bunt to bring Pierce home.
Tennessee closer Nick Williams entered in the final frame and worked a perfect ninth, fanning three, to get his fourth save, matching his total from 2011.
