Tennessee took one of three games from Florida before a packed stadium this weekend in Knoxville – with three sellouts on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
With more than 1,700 in the seats, fans who arrived 45 minutes before Saturday’s first pitch saw a “sold out” sign on the ticket window.
Some returned to their vehicles, while others climbed the embankment behind the leftfield wall and watched from a perch close to the railroad tracks while others scaled a storage trailer behind centerfield and watched from there.
Others peeked in through the fence in foul territory in right field, while others walked to the top row of seats at the soccer stadium – the Lady Vols had an exhibition match Saturday and won 2-0 versus Cincinnati – and watched from there. They could turn one way and see softball and the other way and watch soccer.
Tennessee’s lone win in the series came Friday when Ellen Renfroe recorded 15 strikeouts, and the Lady Vols won 1-0 on a fielding error in the bottom of the seventh. Florida took 5-2 and 1-0 wins in the other contests.
The Lady Vols will be back in action Tuesday at home against Georgia Southern in a double-header beginning at 4 p.m. Eastern. The two teams were originally set to play Feb. 29 but the games were postponed because of storms.
Tennessee returns to SEC action at Arkansas for three games, beginning March 16.
