McRae scores 64

One Tennessee player stole the show in Thursday night's summer league action at Knoxville's Bearden High Gym. Check out this free read for all of the details:

When Tennessee's Jordan McRae scored 44 points in Wednesday night's Rocky Top League action he was just getting warmed up. The 6-foot-5 junior came back with a league-record 64 points Thursday night in advancing Choice Spine into Monday night's RTL title game.

McRae, who set a league record last summer by averaging 45.7 points per game, was remarkably efficient Thursday night. He made 27 of 36 shots from the field, including 8 of 13 from 3-point range. Counting Wednesday's game, McRae has hit 43 of 64 attempts in his last two outings, including 14 of 25 from behind the arc.

Vol teammate Quinton Chievous, admittedly "under the weather," added 3 points for Choice Spine. Campus Lights got 35 points from Vol freshman Derek Reese and 23 from Vol senior Kenny Hall but still came out on the short end of a 129-94 score.

The victory earns Choice Spine the spot opposite R. Larry Smith Insurance in Monday's championship round. Smith advanced to the title game by beating The Knoxville News-Sentinel 121-119. Ex-Vol Bobby Maze led the winners with 29 points. Current Vols Josh Richardson (26) and Skylar McBee (12) also contributed to the win. Ex-Vol Cameron Tatum scored 32 points and current Vol Brandon Lopez 12 for KNS. Tennessee's Yemi Makanjuola did not play.

Thursday's other game saw Vol walk-on Galen Campbell pump in 38 points in leading Rice Buick/GMC to a 123-107 defeat of DeRoyal Industries. Ex-Vol Wayne Chism chipped in 21 points. Vol walk-on Rob Murphy contributed 12 and ex-Vol Steven Pearl 10.
