A depth chart change at starting cornerback for Tennessee took place this week as Justin Coleman has unseated Marsalis Teague.
"Nobody is really set in stone; anybody can get beat out," first-year Tennessee cornerbacks coach Derrick Ansley said Wednesday.
Teague was in and out of the starting lineup on the island since switching over to defense from wide receiver following his freshman season. In 2012, he has seven tackles and an interception that he hauled in against North Carolina State.
Football is the consummate team sport, but Teague received considerable negative attention after the Florida game after Trey Burton's 75-yard touchdown run, Frankie Hammond's 75-yard TD reception and whiffing on a potential fumble recover on the Gators' opening possession.
Ansley broke down some of what he sees out of his guys, including a report on where Coleman is now compared to what he saw when he was hired earlier this year.
"I think he's come a long way," Ansley said of Coleman. "He has a big upside as well. He's a strong guy, he's a physical guy with really heavy hands. He's got a lot of upside. He's only a sophomore. He's young, but we're bringing him along also."
Coleman is a 5-foot-10, 182-pounder that has played in all 15 games since arriving in Knoxville out of Brunswick, (Ga.) High School. He has 11 career tackles and two pass breakups.
Fifth-year senior Prentiss Waggner is the other starting cornerback. The two safeties on the field first against Akron figure to be Brent Brewer and Byron Moore.
Kickoff between the Big Orange and the Akron Zips at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville is Saturday night at 7:30.
