"It was the best game I've ever been to. I was happy to see UCLA beat USC," he said.
Mathis, who was sitting with Bruins' commits and recruits during the game, enjoyed the experience.
Though many programs have offered the 6-foot-4, 265-pound prospect, UCLA is one of a handful still left on the list.
"It's a great program and I am interested in them," said Mathis.
The team's performance on Saturday night really impressed Mathis; he lists defensive end Cassius Marsh, safety Tevin McDonald, cornerbacks Aaron Hester and Sheldon Price, and linebacker Anthony Barr as players who all stood out.
"I was impressed with how they came out with the fire. They were beating them and they kept on beating them. They didn't give up, even at the end. They could have let them score but they held them down. They were tired of getting trash-talked," he said.
There is a chance Mathis will also be on hand next weekend when the Bruins host Stanford.
"I was thinking about taking my official visit next weekend, but I don't know yet," he said.
