Cal lands commit from SoCal OL

OL Erik Bunte

Mission Viejo (Calif.) offensive lineman Erik Bunte took an official visit to Cal over the weekend and the former UCLA commit has found a new home.

Erik Bunte committed to UCLA last spring but opened up his recruitment a month or so ago. California, along with Arizona State were the two schools actively recruiting the big tackle prospect and he took an official visit to Berkeley this past weekend.

"I loved the visit, in fact I went ahead and committed to California," Bunte said. "Cal just felt like home to me and that's what I was looking for. I've liked Cal for a while, it's a great school and I knew ahead of time going in that this would be the right place for me and it was.

"It's just the right fit for me, everything felt right. The academics are incredible, I like Coach Dykes a lot and even though they haven't hired a new OL coach yet, that didn't even matter to me. A degree from Cal is about as good as it gets and that was really the most important thing for me."

Bunte said he will not take any other visits and is a solid commit for the Bears.

"I'm done with visits, I'm 100% locked in with Cal," Bunte said. "There is no need to look around any more, I found the best place for me and that's it. It was a great experience for me on the trip and when I told Coach Dykes this morning that I was ready to commit, he was really pumped, it was great. I'm just really excited right now, the recruiting process was kind of crazy for me but in the end, everything worked out the way it was supposed to and I'm thrilled to be a Bear."
