‘Captain’ Big Honor To Three Seniors

Alabama football players have earned a number of awards this year, which is typical of the Crimson Tide under Coach Nick Saban. One award that comes from within the team is captain. This year three men were selected by their teammates as permanent captains.
at the BCS National Championship Game at Miami Gardens on January 7, three Crimson Tide players will be the first to take the field. Bama’s captains will go out for the coin toss.
The three, all seniors, were selected by their teammates. Their Bama careers end with the completion of the game, but they will return to Tuscaloosa in mid-April for the captains’ ceremony at Denny Chimes on the Quad, part of the A-Day pomp. Alabama captains place their handprints and footprints on the plaza around Denny Chimes.
The captains of the 2012 Alabama football team are center
of Memphis, defensive end
of Houston, and offensive guard
of Atlanta. The three met with reporters as the Crimson Tide returned to practice Tuesday. Here’s what they had to say about being selected captains.
“That’s probably the biggest award I’ve ever gotten, is being a team captain because it’s elected by your teammates. It means a lot to be named kind of a leader of the team by your teammates. It’s something that I’m very, very proud of. I grew up going to look at the hands in the cement at Denny Chimes and it’ll be cool to be a part of that. So that’s really a big reason I came back is I wanted to be a captain. So I’m very, very pleased that I could achieve that goal.”
“It’s big. It shows that my teammates think highly of me. And that’s what you want. You come out to practice every day and you try to show good character and be loyal and honest to your teammates throughout these five years, and to have an accomplishment like this...with it or without it, it’s what you come to do. I appreciate the honor that will be around here until the end of time. Everything you do in life, you want to be remembered. And that’s one thing I’ll be remembered for...team captain of the team that’s going to play in Miami.”
“It means a lot to me, because my teammates voted for me to be a captain. That’s all I care about, for real. What matters most to me is what my teammates think, because they’re with me 24-7, 365. They see me all the time. For them to vote me as a permanent captain really means a lot to me.”
