Hickey will miss Houston Baptist game

LSU coach Johnny Jones announced Thursday that point guard Anthony Hickey will not play in Friday night's home out-of-conference game. It is the fourth time this season that Hickey has been publicly disciplined.

At a regularly scheduled press conference, first-year LSU coach Johnny Jones announced Thursday that sophomore point guard Anthony Hickey will not play in Friday night's home game against Houston Baptist.

Jones cited discipline as the reason behind Hickey's absence and said he's not yet sure if he'll allow the Kentucky native to play in the Tigers' following game against Bethune-Cookman on Jan. 5.

"Anthony has a lot of improvement to do in a lot of areas, not only on the floor but off it as well," said Jones. "He has a lot of growth (to do). We have to try and continue helping him develop, not just on the floor but off the floor as well because for him to be able to help us on a consistent basis, it can't be one-dimensional. You just can't be about basketball. You have to be good off-the-floor as well.

"Because of that, he won't be with us tomorrow as well. We've played, that will be 10 games now, and he's been suspended for two or three of them and disciplined in another. He's going to have to at some point grow up, and it's up to us to try and help him."

Counting the Tigers' exhibition game against Arkansas-Monticello the week before the season opener, this will be the fourth time Hickey has been suspended or disciplined in a game this season.

LSU is 7-2 on the year with SEC play around the corner following out-of-conference games against Houston Baptist and Bethune Cookman.
