James Makes His Move

Illinois added the verbal commitment of a defensive end from the Sunshine State Wednesday.

Less than 48 hours after losing one defense end pledge from the 2013 class, Illinois added another.

Paul James, of Miami Norland (Fla.), committed to the Illini Wednesday, a source close to the staff confirmed.

James takes the place of Evan Panfill, who switched his verbal commitment to Purdue earlier this week.

A three-star recruit, James is a 6-3, 235-pound rush end rated as the No. 65 player at his position.

At one time, he listed the likes of Alabama, Tennessee and West Virginia in his top group of favorites, though it's unclear if he had offers from each school.

Currently, the Illini have 26 players in the 2013 class, 10 of which are already on campus, enrolled in classes and expected to participate in spring practices. The rest can sign a letter-of-intent beginning Wednesday, Feb. 6.
