Four-star quarterback Joshua Dobbs has switched his allegiance and decided to be a Tennessee Vol.

Originally committed to Arizona State, the strong-armed, quick-footed Dobbs chose National Signing Day to announce he instead will play his college football in Knoxville.

Representing Alpharetta (Ga.) High School in Class AAAAAA last fall, he threw for 29 touchdowns with just 11 interceptions and ran for 12 more scores. Despite the absence of suspended three-star wideout Carlos Burse, Dobbs completed 23 of 40 passes for 271 yards and four touchdowns in a losing cause against Mill Creek in Round 1 of the Georgia State playoffs.

His junior stats included 3,113 passing yards with 29 TDs and 15 interceptions. He capped his junior season by being tabbed Offensive MVP for the East team in the 2011 Georgia-based Rising Seniors Bowl.

Alpharette head coach Jason Dukes calls him "the best high school quarterback that I've ever seen with my own eyes."

In addition to his excellence on the gridiron, Dobbs is an outstanding student who drew scholarship offers from several Ivy League schools.

Dobbs will compete for playing time at Tennessee with two returning Vol quarterbacks -- junior Justin Worley and redshirt freshman Nathan Peterman -- along with fellow signee Riley Ferguson (Matthews, N.C.).
