Vols break through with 4-star OT?
As viewers of Southeastern Conference football saw Saturday, talent runs rich throughout the league and any team can beat another any given weekend. That competitive nature of the SEC carries over to the recruiting world. Tennessee is guaranteed to lose four of its starting five offensive linemen and the fifth, left tackle Antonio Richardson, may forgo his final year of eligibility for the NFL Draft. Pair that opportunity with a lively atmosphere at Neyland Stadium that saw the Volunteers upset then-No. 9 South Carolina 23-21 and it's enough to open eyes of recruits in attendance with the other 95,735 fans. Landing a possible first-game starter at offensive tackle is no simple task and the recruitment of Avery Gennesy figures to be a tight one until the Dec. 16-19 dead period. The Volunteers showed the East Mississippi Community College standout what they had to offer but it wasn't enough to get a verbal commitment. "It was good, it was fun," Gennesy told InsideTennessee. "They're in my top 3." Joining Tennessee atop the FOX Sports/Scout four-star's list of favorites is Ole Miss and Texas A&M. The 6-foot-5, 315-pound tackle couldn't pinpoint one thing about his official visit, simply saying what stuck out was "everything really." "It was a little bit more live. It's just been good," said Gennesy, who's already visited College Station and Oxford. The frenzied atmosphere on Shields-Watkins Field included players hugging and rejoicing as a lengthy losing streak versus ranked opponents was snapped. "They played hard. It was a nice win. They never gave up, so it was a good game." Stay tuned for more on Gennesy in the coming weeks as he plans to enroll at the school of his choice in January.
