Four players scored in double figures for Tennessee. Jordan McRae scored 20 to go with four rebounds and three assists. Jarnell Stokes contributed 18 points and 13 boards. Josh Richardson bucketed 17 to go with eight rebounds. Antonio Barton provided 10 points.
Adam Woodbury's 16 points and eight rebounds paced Iowa (20-13).
The teams were tied at 64-all at the end of regulation. The Hawkeyes held the Vols scoreless the first 6 minutes of the game and were up 29-26 at halftime.
It was coach Cuonzo Martin's first NCAA Tournament victory since his arrival at Tennessee. His career record in Knoxville goes to 61-40.
