Thursday Practice Re[ort
Head Coach Phillip Fulmer seems very pleased with the progress of defensive tackle Tony McDaniel. Fulmer reiterated the fact that McDaniel did not play enough against Marshall. However, with a trip to The Swamp just nine days away, Fulmer awaits the opportunity to give McDaniel a chance to show what he can do on the SEC's biggest stage. "This is the first time he's been away from Knoxville as far as in another stadium," Fulmer said. "It'll be interesting to see how he'll respond to that. He is way ahead of the ballgame. Right now he's pushing for significant playing time as a true freshman which tells you a little bit about his ability. It also tells you about our depth." As for the depth Fulmer alluded to, the team should welcome starting defensive tackles Mondre Dickerson and Greg Jones back to practice on Monday. Dickerson has been slowed by a sprained ankle for the last couple of weeks. Fulmer said the off week has given Dickerson a chance to rest his ailing ankle. Jones, on the other hand, has been sidelined with a sore knee. Bill Grimes, who was shaken up during Wednesday's practice, was spotted on crutches. Grimes, a freshman receiver, is expected to be back in action on Monday along with a host of other Vols who sat out the week to recover from a number of nagging injuries. Tennessee is off Friday. The next UT practice is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
