QUARTERLY REPORT

What follows is a quarter-by-quarter recap of Tennessee's loss at Auburn Saturday .

FIRST QUARTER RECAP: Fired-up Auburn marched 80 yards in 10 plays and 86 yards in seven plays on its first two possessions to take a 14-0 lead. Cadillac Williams gained 40 rushing yards and caught a nine-yard screen pass on the initial drive, which ended with a six-yard TD run by Ronnie Brown. Williams gained 28 more yards on the second drive, which was capped by a 29-yard TD pass from Jason Campbell to Ben Obomanu.

KEY PLAY: On third and 7 at the Auburn 48-yard line, Campbell hit Anthony Mix with a 15-yard completion. The Tigers scored twoplays later to go up 14-0.

KEY PLAYER: Williams. For the quarter he carried seven times for 66 yards, helping set up both TDs.

KEY STAT: Auburn outgained Tennessee 209 yards to 25 and outrushed the Vols 96 yards to minus-6.

2ND QUARTER

RECAP: Auburn kicker John Vaughn missed a 37-yard field goal try on the second play of the quarter. Williams botched another drive by losing a fumble at the Vol 19-yard line that was recovered by UT cornerback Jabari Greer. Tennessee's offense finally showed some life on its last possession of the half, marching 83 yards in 10 plays. Jabari Davis got the TD on a one-yard dive to pull the Vols within 14-7 26 seconds shy of halftime.

KEY PLAY: On second and 10 at the Vol 29-yard line, Clausen threw a pass that was batted by an Auburn defensive back but corralled by James Banks for a 28-yard gain to the Tiger 33-yard line. Tennessee scored five plays later to get back in the game.

KEY PLAYER: Casey Clausen. UT's quarterback completed 7 of 8 passes for 75 yards on the Vols' 83-yard TD drive.

KEY STAT: Jason Campbell. Auburn's QB, considered the weak link of the Tiger offense, completed 7 of 13 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown in the first two periods.

3RD QUARTER

RECAP: Tennessee marched to the Auburn 33-yard line on its first possession of the second half but James Wilhoit missed a 50-yard field goal try. Auburn responded by marching 67 yards in in 12 plays to go up 21-7 ... Cadillac Williams gaining 41 of the yards on his own. Tennessee moved to the Auburn 38-yard line but Tony Brown fumbled after a big hit from Auburn's Donterrius Thomas, and Auburn's DeMArco McNeil recovered. The Tigers were marching again moments later, reaching the Vol 11-yard line by quarter's end.

KEY PLAY: Auburn, facing second-and-18 at the Vol 38-yard line, got consecutive runs of 10 and 16 yards from Williams to pick up a crucial first down at the UT 12. Auburn scored four plays later.

KEY PLAYER: Williams carried on the final eight plays of the scoring drive, accounting for 41 yards and scoring the TD on a one-yard plunge. KEY STAT: Through three quarters, Auburn had 233 rushing yards, UT had three.

4TH QUARTER

RECAP: Campbell found tight end Cole Bennett with an eight-yard TD pass on the second play of the quarter, building Auburn's lead to 28-7 with 14:12 to play. Tennessee rallied valiantly, however, marching 63 yards in eight plays to pull within 28-14, then zooming 80 yards in eight plays to close the gap to 28-21 with 7:53 to go. Clausen hit Mark Jones with a 17-yard pass for the first TD, then found Chris Hannon with a 28-yarder for the second. Tennessee got the ball back with 1:52 to play and marched to the Auburn 29-yard line with 58 seconds left. But Carlos Rogers stepped in front of Mark Jones to intercept a Clausen pass at this point, sealing the victory.

KEY PLAY: Rogers' interception stalled a Vol drive that appeared destined to produce a game-tying TD that would've sent the game into overtime.

KEY PLAYER: Chris Hannon, UT's fourth-team receiver, caught a 14-yard pass on third-and-13 to spark the first scoring drive, then caught passes of 20 , 11 and 28 yards on the second. He also caught a 21-yard pass on fourth-and-15 to extend UT's final drive of the game.

KEY STAT: Casey Clausen suffered his first road loss as a college quarterback after 11 victories. Clausen 30 of 47 passing.
