According to a story in today's editions of The Tennessean, the 7-foot sophomore has opted to finish this semester, then transfer to another school.
Gary Herndon, Boomer's dad, told The Tennessean that his son is ''exploring his opportunities’’ but that ''no decisions have been made’’ regarding a new school.
Boomer Herndon, who attended high school at Donelson Christian Academy, has a redshirt season available. So, if he transfers to another Div. I school,
he would sit out one year and still have two seasons of eligibility remaining. If he transfers to a Div. II or NAIA school, he could play in 2004-05.
Herndon averaged just 6.6 minutes, 1.6 points and 1.8 rebounds per game in the just-completed season. His best game came against The Citadel, when he had 10 points and 8 rebounds in 15 minutes of action.
The development of 6-foot-10 true freshman Major Wingate in the second half of the 2003-04 season cut into Herndon's minutes down the stretch.
The Vols return Wingate and Brandon Crump to play the post position next season. They have two more post players signed for 2004-05 -- Jackie Butler and Damion Harris -- but both reportedly face eligibility issues.
Andre Patterson, a 6-7 UCLA transfer who sat out the 2003-04 season, can play the high post position.
