One of their targets is Kevin Alexander, a 6-3, 215-pound linebacker from Union County High in Lake Butler. He recorded 100 tackles and four sacks last year en route to first-team all-state recognition. That has earned him scholarship offers from several top college programs, including the Big Orange.
“I have offers from Auburn, Tennessee, N.C. State, Clemson, Temple, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Maryland, Kansas State and Alabama,” he told Jamie Newberg of Scout.com. “My top six schools right now are Kansas State, Maryland, N.C. State, Tennessee, North Carolina and Auburn.”
Alexander said he likes the game-day atmosphere at UT. However, he was impressed that Auburn had four players picked (Ronnie Brown, Cadillac Williams, Carlos Rodgers and Jason Campbell) in the first round of the most recent National Football League Draft.
Although he doesn’t list Florida among his favorites, Alexander attended the Gators’ recent Junior Day and says he gets text messages regularly from head coach Urban Meyer.
The four players UT signed from Florida last February were wide receiver Ulysses Alexander (Miami), defensive back Demetrice Morley (Miami), defensive tackle Vladimir Richard (Sunrise) and defensive end Gerald Williams (Lauderdale Lakes).
