Alexander leaves UT for Auburn

Posted Aug 4, 2005

Because a wide receiver lost his patience, Tennessee has lost a football signee.

Ulysses Alexander, a 6-4, 200-pound wideout from Miami Northwestern, has been released from the letter of intent he signed with UT last February and will attend Auburn. Whereas he was ticketed to grayshirt with the Vols -- enroll in January and miss the 2005 football season -- he will be immediately eligible at Auburn.

Other than Alexander, all of UT’s February signees are expected to be on hand for Friday’s first day of preseason workouts except for two academic casualties – offensive lineman Darius Myers of Cordova and linebacker Todd Cox of Memphis Harding Academy. Myers will attend prep school and probably join the Vols in time for the 2006 season. Cox is headed for junior college and probably won’t be available to UT until 2007.

On a positive note, defensive end prospect Gerald Williams of Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., appears to be eligible, although he has not yet been approved by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
