Jason Allen, Miami’s first-round pick in last month’s NFL Draft, performed so well at the Dolphins’ recent minicamp that he earned a brief mention in the May 26 issue of Sporting News.
The note, entitled “Safety first for Dolphins rookie,” was written by Dan Pompei and published in the NFL Insider segment. It reads as follows:
“Miami rookie DB Jason Allen has shown the skills to be an excellent cover man as a safety or a cornerback. In his first minicamp, he lined up at free safety, where he probably can make the biggest impact right away, and nickel corner.
“He also showed great confidence and more than a little chutzpah; he chided an official after one play for not throwing a flag.”
Allen, who missed the last half of his senior season at UT because of a dislocated hip, seems to be healthy, happy and headed for a fine career in the pro ranks.
