Kevin Simon’s career as a Vol linebacker was wrecked by injuries. When healthy, though, he was incredibly productive. He played just two full seasons but led UT in tackles each time – posting 115 in 2003 and 88 in 2005.
If not for concerns about his surgically repaired knees and his height, Simon might’ve been a Day 1 NFL selection, instead of a Round 7 afterthought. Regardless, he apparently made a positive impression at the Redskins’ recent minicamps, based on a report in the June 23 issue of Sporting News.
SN’s “Inside the NFL” column has this to say about the rugged ex-Vol:
“Redskins seventh-round pick Kevin Simon is an intriguing possibility as a backup middle linebacker. He’s undersized at 5-10, 230, but size matters little in Washington’s system. Simon has been confident in minicamps and has the intelligence and physical nature the scheme requires.”
