The third regular-season USTFCCCA national poll finds the University of Tennessee women’s cross country team still holding down the No. 24 spot, as the Lady Vols prepare to compete in the ISU Pre-Nationals Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana, on Saturday.

The Lady Vols, who opened the season at 14th in the nation, collected 88 points to once again sit as the second of two Southeastern Conference schools in the poll. Arkansas stayed at No. 4. UT also maintained its No. 2. spot in the NCAA South Region rankings, falling in behind 12th-ranked Florida State.

Defending NCAA champion Stanford continued to clutch the number-one position in the poll, again garnering all 13 first-place votes. Colorado swapped places with Michigan for the No. 2 slot, dropping the Wolverines to third, followed by Arkansas and North Carolina State. Rounding out the top 10 were BYU, Princeton, UC-Santa Barbara, Wisconsin and Providence.

Thus far in 2006, Tennessee has finished second in the Belmont Opener, first in the Tennessee Invitational and third in the Paul Short Run, fashioning a 52-3 record.

Lady Vol senior Felicia Guliford sprained her ankle in the Paul Short Run. She was making a push toward the lead pack with about 800 meters to go when she appeared to step on a piece of debris on the course and turned her right ankle. She attempted to get up and continue but was unable to complete the race. She has since returned to practice.
