Ainge, Fulmer up for awards

The Maxwell Football Club announced Wednesday that Tennessee quarterback Erik Ainge and head coach Phillip Fulmer are semifinalists for the 2006 Maxwell and George Munger awards, respectively. The Maxwell is presented to the collegiate player of the year, while the Munger goes to the college coach of the year.

The respective lists include a field of 15 candidates for each award, as selected by the Maxwell Football Club Advisory Committee.

The announcement of the winner of the Maxwell Award occurs during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 7. Three finalists will be in attendance for the ESPN telecast.

The Maxwell Football Club announces the winner of the 18th George Munger Award via a press release in December. The formal presentation of both awards is made at the Maxwell Football Club's Awards Dinner, to be held March 2, 2007, in Atlantic City, N.J.

Voting for these awards begins Nov. 3 and closes Dec. 1.
