Vols and fantasy football

Posted Jul 14, 2007

If you're a University of Tennessee fan AND play in an NFL fantasy league, here's some good news: There are five former Volunteers who can help you score a bunch of points in the season to come.

According to ratings compiled and published at sportsillustrated.com, five of the 200 most attractive fantasy players for 2007-08 are UT alumni.

SI.com says the top eight players available in this year's NFL fantasty draft are all running backs. They are, in order, LaDainian Tomlinson (San Diego), Steven Jackson (St. Louis), Larry Johnson (Kansas City), Frank Gore (San Francisco), Shaun Alexander (Seattle), Willie Parker (Pittsburgh), Rudi Johnson (Cincinnati) and Brian Westbrook (Philadelphia).

No. 9 on the list is former Vol quarterback Peyton Manning, the highest rated non-running back. Ex-Vol tailback Travis Henry, who recently left the Tennessee Titans and joined the Denver Broncos as a free agent, is rated No. 11.

The next Vol alumnus on SI.com's fantasy list is running back Jamal Lewis. Now playing for the Cleveland Browns, Lewis checks in at No. 53 on the fantasty list.

Former UT wide receiver Donte' Stallworth (New England) is ranked No. 80 and ex-Vol tight end Jason Witten (Dallas) is ranked No. 107.

No other UT alumni are ranked among the top 200 fantasy league picks.
