University of Tennessee Athletics Director Mike Hamilton announced Thursday that members of the basketball coaching staff received raises effective July 1.

“Coach (Bruce) Pearl and his staff have accomplished great things for our basketball program and brought new life to Tennessee basketball,” said Hamilton. “We look forward to the 2007-08 season with great anticipation and the role that each of our assistant coaches will play in our success.”

The total amount Tennessee is currently paying its assistant coaches is $472,246. This number will increase to $511,946.

Coach Current Salary New Salary

Tony Jones $155,000 $165,850

Steve Forbes $140,246 $155,246

Jason Shay $100,000 $110,000

Ken Johnson $77,000 $80,850

“I wanted my assistant coaches to share in our success and make sure that their increases were in line with my increase,” said Pearl. “You are only as good as the people you surround yourself with, and I feel like I have the best staff in the country.”

All funding for the athletics department, including coaches’ salaries, is from monies generated by athletics’ resources and not from appropriated funding by the state of Tennessee or other university-related revenues.
