A first-year defensive back from Fairburn, Ga., Berry already was named the Sporting News’ SEC Defensive Freshman of the Year and a member of the magazine’s Freshman All-SEC squad. CollegeFootballNews.com included him on its Freshman All-America teams and Berry was selected National Defensive Freshman of the Year by CollegeFootballNews.com.
Eric Berry, who leads the SEC freshman class with 83 tackles and has a UT-record 222 interception return yards on five pickoffs, made both the league coaches’ and writers’ All-SEC second teams and is a consensus Freshman All-SEC selection.
Daniel Lincoln, a redshirt freshman placekicker from Ocala, Fla., also earned All-SEC second-team status from the league’s coaches and media and is a consensus Freshman All-SEC honoree.
The SEC’s only Groza Award semifinalist, Lincoln has made 21-of-28 field goal attempts this season and scored 112 points to rewrite the Tennessee freshman placekicking records book. And in addition to his successful on-field debut, Lincoln was named this fall to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV squad.
