A native of Las Vegas, Nev., C.J. Watson earned second team All-Southeastern Conference honors while averaging 15.3 points on Tennessee’s 2005-06 SEC Eastern Division championship team. He finished his career ranking second all-time at UT with 577 career steals and 198 career steals.
Watson, who has been playing for the NBDL’s Rio Grande Valley Vipers this season, spent the last two summers playing in the NBA summer league for the San Antonio Spurs and then went through training camp with the Charlotte Bobcats in the fall. The fifth overall pick in the 2007 D-League Draft, Watson was averaging 26.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.3 steals in 16 games for the Vipers. He was named the D-League’s Player of the Month in December after scoring 30 or more points five times, including a 32 point, 15 assist and nine rebound effort against Dakota on Dec. 22.
“He’s playing very well in the D-League,” Warriors coach Don Nelson told InsideBayArea.com, “and we need some help.”
