Florida, Georgia, LSU and Alabama rank 1-2-3-4 for the third week in a row. Surprising Vanderbilt (4-0) climbed to No. 6 this week.
That said, below are the new ratings, with each team graded on the usual 1-10 scale:
1. Florida (9.0): The Gators (3-0 overall, 1-0 SEC) grabbed a 17-0 lead 11 minutes into the game and coasted to a 30-6 defeat of Tennessee. Brandon James produced most of the early damage, returning the opening kickoff 52 yards to set up the first touchdown, then returning a punt 78 yards for the second TD.
2. Georgia (8.0): The Dawgs (4-0, 1-0) got 149 rushing yards from Knowshon Moreno and a 285-yard passing performance from Matthew Stafford in a 27-10 win at Arizona State. The Dawgs scored all three of their TDs in the second quarter and allowed just 4 net rushing yards all evening.
3. LSU (8.0): The Tigers (3-0, 1-0) got an 18-yard touchdown pass from Jarrett Lee to Brandon LaFell with 1:03 remaining to overcome Auburn 26-21. Lee's first five passes consisted of four incompletions and an interception that was returned for a TD. He then completed 11 of his last 17 tries for 182 yards, however. Charles Scott added 132 rushing yards.
4. Alabama (8.0): Javier Arenas (63 yards) and Justin Woodall (74 yards) returned interceptions for touchdowns, helping the Tide (4-0, 1-0) grab a 35-7 halftime lead en route to a 49-14 beat-down of Arkansas. Six of Bama's seven TDs came on plays of 25 yards or more. Glen Coffee rushed for 162 yards.
5. Auburn (7.0): With Ben Tate limited to 45 yards on 19 rushes, Auburn (3-1, 1-1) came out on the short end of a 26-21 score against LSU. Chris Todd completed 17 of 32 passes for 250 yards and helped Auburn carry a 21-20 lead into the game's final minutes.
6. Vanderbilt (6.0): The Commodores moved to 4-0 and soared to No. 21 in the Associated Press national rankings on the basis of a 23-17 win at Ole Miss. Ryan Hamilton intercepted three passes for the 'Dores, who got a break when the Rebels' march to the potential game-tying TD ended on a fumble into the end zone with 2:40 left.
7. Kentucky (5.5): The Big Blue (3-0, 0-0) had an open date.
8. Ole Miss (5.0): The Rebels (2-2, 0-1) led Vanderbilt 17-7 early but committed six costly turnovers en route to a 23-17 loss. Jevan Snead completed 12 of 25 passes for 184 yards to lead Ole Miss, which has dropped nine straight SEC games and 13 of the past 14.
9. Tennessee (4.5): The Vols (1-2, 0-1) gave up a 78-yard punt return and a 52-yard kickoff return en route to a 17-0 first-quarter deficit, then twice failed to score after driving to Florida's 1-yard line in the second quarter. Result: an embarrassing 30-6 home-field loss to the Gators.
10. South Carolina (4.5): The Gamecocks (2-2, 0-2) couldn't put away Div. 1-AA Wofford until Chris Smelley completed a 17-yard TD pass with 1:58 left to seal a 23-13 victory. The win was just Carolina's second in its last nine outings, dating to the middle of 2007.
11. Mississippi State (4.0): The Bulldogs (1-3, 0-1) went eight quarters without an offensive point before posting a touchdown against Georgia Tech reserves in the fourth quarter of a 38-7 loss to the Yellow Jackets. MSU surrendered 438 rushing yards and lost four turnovers.
12. Arkansas (2.5): Now we know why the Ole Miss job looked so good to Houston Nutt. The Razorbacks showed just how pathetic they are in a 49-14 home loss to Alabama. Tailback Michael Smith was the Hogs' lone bright spot, posting 91 rushing yards and 67 receiving yards.
