UT-Vandy matchup chart

Posted Nov 19, 2008

Here's a position-by-position comparison for Saturday's Tennessee-Vanderbilt game at Dudley Field in Nashville:

Game #: 1154
Site: Nashville
Date: Nov. 22
Conference: SECE
Coach Match-up:
For the Vols - Fulmer and for the Commodores - Johnson

Vols

Commodores
OLCOMMENTSOL

I thought I saw a Vol nearly block one of the Wyoming linemen 10 days ago but when I watched the replay I realized I was mistaken. UT still hasn't blocked anyone all year.

QB'sCOMMENTSQB's

As badly as Chris Nickson and Mackenzi Adams have played for Vandy, they're still a notch ahead of UT's quarterback play.

RB'sCOMMENTSRB's

Even with Arian Foster probably sidelined by a thigh bruise, Tennessee has three solid rushers in Hardesty, Creer and Poole.

WR'sCOMMENTSWR's

It's hard to know how good UT's receivers are, since the pass protection and quarterback play have been so weak. That's why I'm giving them no better than a draw.

Vols

Commodores
DLCOMMENTSDL

With a week off to get some guys healthier, Tennessee rates the edge in quality, if not quantity, along the front four.

LB'sCOMMENTSLB's

Vol MLB Ellix Wilson is great when healthy but he hasn't been healthy lately. Rico McCoy has had a really erratic season.

DB'sCOMMENTSDB's

This game matches the SEC's top two secondaries and the SEC's top two DBs - UT's Eric Berry and Vandy's D.J. Moore. This one's simply too close to call.

S. TeamsCOMMENTSS. Teams

UT kicker Daniel Lincoln (8 of 15) has struggled but punter Britton Colquitt (44.3 average) has starred. Vandy's D.J. Moore (14.4 yards on punt returns) and UT's Dennis Rogan (24.8 on kick returns) offset one another.

Vols

Commodores
INTANGIBLES

Vandy has the home-field advantage and can assure itself a mid-level bowl bid by beating Tennessee. The Vols have absolutely nothing to play for.

PREDICTION

I've seen some awful offenses in 40 years following the Big Orange but none as painful to watch as the current one. Vandy 20, Tennessee 13
