UT dismisses two gridders

A one-sentence release from the University of Tennessee confirms that two Vol football players have been dismissed from the program.

Here is the release in its entirety:

The University of Tennessee announced Thursday that sophomore offensive tackle Ramone Johnson and freshman wide receiver E.J. Abrams-Ward have been dismissed from the team for disciplinary reasons.

Johnson, a 6-5, 315-pound sophomore from Chicago, played sparingly in 2008, although he was listed as the No. 2 left tackle behind junior Chris Scott.

Abrams-Ward was the most heralded member of UT's 2008 signing class. Tabbed a four-star recruit by Scout.com, the 6-5, 210-pounder from Thomasville, N.C., redshirted as a true freshman last fall.
