Four signed early with UT

Four signed early with UT

Few things are certain on National Signing Day but this much is: Four prospects signed early with Tennessee and already are enrolled.

Here's a look at each of them, compiled by our own Jeffery Stewart:

- Rae Sykes, 6-4, 240, 4.70, DE, Alcoa, Tenn., signed with Tennessee in 2007 selecting the Vols over Florida State, Florida, Alabama and LSU in an intense recruiting battle for the four-star talent. He enrolled at Coffeyville Junior College when he didn't qualify. He signed the letter of intent with Tennessee in December, and is currently attending classes. Sykes, who will have three seasons of eligibility remaining, has the makings to become a classic speed rusher coming off the weak side of the formation.

- Toney Williams, 6-1, 227, 4.73, of Alpharetta, Ga., is the nation's No. 4 ranked fullback and a four-star prospect. He had an outstanding season at Milton High School , running for 1,693 yards and 21 touchdowns in 256 carries over nine games. He added another 205 yards and a TD catching passes out of the backfield. And even managed to throw a pair of touchdowns. Surprisingly nimble for a power back, Williams could play fullback, tailback or a single back. Has the size and strength to make an early impact for the Vols.

- Montori Hughes, 6-5, 275, 4.8, (Siegel HS) Murfreesboro, TN,committed 01/28/2008; Summary: Named 4-5A Defensive MVP as a senior, Hughes was overlooked by most major programs until UT coaches saw him perform in the Tennessee All-Star Classic. He's spent the last year getting his academics in condition and is currently enrolled at Tennessee. Has impressive quickness and mobility, but will require development.

- Nigel Mitchell-Thornton, 6-2, 228, 4.6, Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, Ga., is the nation's No. 29 ranked middle linebacker prospect. Split time between linebacker and defensive end as a junior, he had 102 tackles with six sacks. He played middle linebacker exclusively in 2008 and finished with 119 stops, 10 for loss, three sacks and three INTs. A good pickup who might be a couple of years away.
