Hopson SEC frosh of week

LSU's Marcus Thornton and Tennessee's Scotty Hopson have been named Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively, for SEC basketball.

LSU's Marcus Thornton was named the SEC Player of the Week after averaging 27.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game as the Tigers wrapped up their 10th SEC title with wins over Florida and at Kentucky. He scored 15 of his 23 points against the Wildcats in the game's final 9:30 after the Wildcats had taken a 10-point lead. He dished out the game-winning assist against Kentucky when he found Tasmin Mitchell open for a three-pointer with 9.8 seconds left. He had 32 points, five rebounds and five assists in leading the Tigers to a victory over Florida. Thornton has scored in double figures in 13 consecutive games

SEC Freshman Of The Week

Scotty Hopson

Tennessee's Scotty Hopson was named SEC Freshman of the Week after he averaged 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in helping the Volunteers to wins over Mississippi State and at Florida. Hopson had a career-high 21 points and tied his career mark with six rebounds against the Bulldogs. He shot 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from the field and 50 percent (3-of-6) from three-point range against Mississippi State. He helped seal the win at Florida on the defensive end of the floor when he blocked a potentially game-tying three-pointer with 37 seconds left.
