Scrimmage highlights

Except for some costly turnovers, Tennessee's offense was surprisingly dominant in Saturday's full-scale scrimmage at Neyland Stadium.

Here are the highlights:

- Jonathan Crompton hit Denarius Moore with a perfectly thrown 19-yard strike to the defense's 29-yard line on the sixth play of the scrimmage.

- Sophomore tailback Tauren Poole fumbled a handoff from Crompton on the very next play and linebacker Nick Reveiz recovered.

- Mid-term freshman Toney Williams bolted 41 yards to the defense's 19-yard line the first time he touched the ball.

- The middle of the defensive line stuffed Poole for a three-yard loss on the very next play and the offense wound up settling for a 34-yard Daniel Lincoln field goal.

- Defensive end Chris Walker stripped Crompton on a pass attempt. Crompton recovered the bobble for a six-yard loss.

- B. J. Coleman found sophomore receiver Tyler Maples for a 10-yard gain.

- Maples made a nice block on a flanker reverse that Quintin Hancock turned into a 21-yard gain to the defense's 14-yard line.

- After a 7-yard Coleman-to-Maples completion, walk-on tailback C.J. Jackson raced untouched around right end for a seven-yard touchdown.

- Redshirt freshman safety Rod Wilks dropped Hardesty for a one-yard loss.

- Toney Williams burst up the middle for 14 yards.

- Redshirt freshman end Willie Bohannon hit Williams in his tracks for a two-yard loss.

- Maples gathered in a 10-yard pass from Coleman but, struggling to get to the end zone, lost a fumble that the defense recovered at the 4-yard line.

- Crompton hit Denarius Moore with a 17-yard strike to the defense's 38-yard line.

- Crompton found Hancock for a 12-yard gain to the defense's 11-yard line.

- Hardesty rambled for 10 yards, then plunged into the end zone from a foot away on the very next play.

- Toney Williams rambled for an 11-yard gain.

- Poole raced 19 yards around right end only to fumble at the end of the run, the ball harmlessly rolling out of bounds.

- Linebacker Herman Lathers made a big hit to turn a swing pass to fullback Austin Johnson into a one-yard loss.

- Mid-term freshman Montori Hughes batted down a pass by Coleman.

- Poole took a pitchout and started off right tackle, then made a killer cut to the inside and scored untouched on a breath-taking 15-yard run.

- Cornerback Stephaun Raines made a beautiful break on the ball to break up a Crompton pass intended for Gerald Jones.

- Montori Hughes threw Toney Williams for a two-yard loss.

- Cornerback C. J. Fleming intercepted a Crompton underthrow of Gerald Jones and returned the pick approximately 20 yards.

- Poole recorded back-to-back runs of 21 and 14 yards, advancing the ball from midfield to the defense's 15-yard line.

- Toney Williams took a misdirection pitch and scored untouched on a five-yard burst around right end.

- Crompton hit Poole in the flat on a play that gained 15 yards.

- Defensive tackle Dan Williams stuffed Poole for no gain.

- A split second before he was belted, Crompton unloaded a safety valve pass to Williams, who rambled 15 yards.

- The offense advanced to the defense's 29-yard line but Lincoln missed a 46-yard field goal.

- Fullback Austin Johnson, split out wide right as a receiver, gathered in a nice throw from Coleman for a 15-yard gain.

- Coleman found sophomore receiver Todd Campbell for a gain of 16 yards to the defense's 22-yard line.

- Coleman overcame a 10-yard holding penalty by zipping an 18-yard strike to Brandon Warren.

- Tackle Victor Thomas dropped Poole for a four-yard loss.

- Walk-on tight end Ben Lehning, despite having his helmet knocked off by defensive back Derrick Furlow, made a spectacular leaping catch of a 19-yard pass from Coleman at the 2-yard line.

- Furlow stopped fullback Kevin Cooper shy of the goal line on first-and-goal at the 2 but Toney Williams plowed into the end zone on the next play, bringing the scrimmage to an end. Recommended Stories
