Gibril Wilson came to Tennessee in the spring semister of 2002 from the West Coast. After a tough start during two-a-days, it was obvious that Wilson would become a force in the Vol secondary. His presence was even more important after a series of injuries hampered cornerback Willie Miles' senior season.
Miles' absence forced starting strong safery Julian Battle to the vacant corner position, thus opening the door for Wilson. The hard-hitting junior made his mark in the second half of the season, when Tennessee was having their problems in the winning column. Going into his senior season, Wilson will be inked to start at strong safety from the beginning and could be looking at all-conference honors should his solid play continue in 2003.
With this is mind, Wilson was named to the 2002 All-Transfer team by JuniorCollegeFootball.com. The Insiders site covered many other players in the list, but Gibril was the only rep from the SEC.

Started 6 games at strong safety for the Vols. Wilson was a JC Grid-Wire All-American and JC Top 101 selection his sophomore year at CCSF.
