The University of Tennessee picked up commitment No. 4 Tuesday morning when Georgia athlete J.C. Copeland from Troup County High School in LaGrange Georgia made the call to Coach Lance Thompson and Coach Monte Kiffin. Go inside this Free Read to see what attracted Copeland to the Vols.

There are two ways you can describe new University of Tennessee defensive commitment J.C. Copeland, quick and explosive.

That’s according to Troup County High School Coach Bubba Jeter.

“Tennessee got them a great one today,” Jeter told “He is a great player and a great young man.”

According to Jeter, the 6-foot-2, 250-pound athlete who runs a 4.56 forty can play a lot of positions for the Volunteers.

“A lot of schools are looking at him to play defensive end, some say outside linebacker, he can definitely play either one at the next level,” Jeter confirms. “He is a special player, he has great hand strength and great quickness. His motor is always running full tilt.”

What swayed Copeland to pick the University of Tennessee?

“Coach Lance Thompson did a tremendous job recruiting him,” Jeter explained. “He and Coach Monte Kiffin came by the school the other day. J.C. was so excited to call them today and tell them the news. He loves the tradition that Tennessee has and he wanted to play for Coach Kiffin.” will have more on the story later this evening after Copeland gets out of school.
