It’s no secret, California signal caller Jesse Scroggins is looking for a place he can comfortably call home for the next four to five years.
The Scout.com four star prospect recently visited the University of Florida and the University of Tennessee, participated in their camps and got an opportunity to get to know each coaching staff better.
“I loved it at Tennessee,” Scroggins told InsideTennessee.com late Monday night. “It was very comforting, I loved the family atmosphere in Knoxville.”
One thing that stood out to Scroggins at UT is the happiness of the current Vol players.
“They love the new coaching staff,” Scroggins said. “To see how happy the older guys are was very inspirational to me. They are buying in to what Coach (Lane) Kiffin is doing, I think great things are ahead for this football program.”
Apparently the Vol coaching staff made it no secret to Scroggins and his family how important he is to their future plans.
“They definitely rolled out the Orange carpet,” Scroggins said. “I hope they were themselves and I felt that they were. They definitely stressed I was their No. 1 target and a key to their future plans. It feels good to be in that place for them.”
Scroggins got a chance to spend three days Florida before arriving in Knoxville for three days. While many may feel that the depth chart situation favors the Vols, Scroggins explained that both are very similar.
“Actually Florida quarterback situation is a lot like the one at Tennessee,” Scroggins said. “They both have two quarterbacks and one of them is a senior at both places.”
When asked to compare the two visits, Scroggins wasn’t ready to do that.
“They are both different places,” Scroggins said. “They are both great places at the same time but in a lot of different ways.”
Did Coach Urban Meyers push for a commitment while he was in the Swamp?
“Coach Meyers told me to wait and make my decision when I was sure I was ready,” Scroggins said. “Coach Kiffin and his staff let me know how important I was to them and how much they needed me, but they didn’t say I had to make a decision immediately either.”
Kiffin apparently made an impression on Scroggins.
“He is very young and very athletic,” Scroggins said. “He is out there going through things with us, it’s really cool. He is very accessible and a lot easier to talk to. You can talk to Coach Kiffin about anything.”
Does Scroggins have a favorite between Florida and Tennessee after the visits?
“It’s a dead tie,” Scroggins said. “It’s going to be a tough decision, I’m going to USC later this week and then I will sit down and look at everything. When I’m ready I will make a decision, I really don’t have a time frame for one.”
