Appears that Scroggins decision to be Elite

Two questions that are on the minds of USC and Tennessee Football fans, one is when will Lakeland California quarterback Jesse Scroggins make an announcement and what school will he choose. Many thought the decision could come today, it appears he will make his decision next week during the Elite 11 Camp. Go inside to get our thoughts on the delay. Does the delay favor UT?

Two questions that are on the minds of USC and Tennessee Football fans, one is when will Lakeland California quarterback Jesse Scroggins make an announcement and what school will he choose.

Many thought that the month long speculation would end today in Beaverton Oregon, where Scroggins' high school team is playing the national 7 on 7 Tournament.

It appears that Scroggins will go back to his original plans of announcing next week at the July 25th Elite 11 Camp.

Coach Thaddeus McNeil told Knoxville Sentinel Sports Writer Dave Hooker that the decision wouldn't come today but next week.

While we answered the two questions above, another question on my mind and the mind of Tennessee fans is the delay a good sign for Volunteer fans.

Rumors have swirled since last week that Scroggins and teammate Dion Bailey both would commit to USC, if that was the case for sure, what is delaying the decision?

"It would appear the longer it takes for him to make a decision, it would favor UT," one Scout.com expert said. "It will be interesting to see. You would think if he was going to stay home at USC he would go ahead and announce the decision today."

Does Scroggins want to play sooner than later?

One would think the quarterback depth chart at Tennessee would definitely favor the Volunteers.

The Vols will enter the 2009 fall football season with only two quarterbacks on the roster with Jeff Crompton being a fifth year senior and Nick Stephens a red shirt Junior. Scroggins would be expected to battle Stephens for the starting job next fall.

One thing that appears to be in USC favor is how close to home and his parents Los Angeles would be. Jesse Scroggins Sr. has said from day one that distance wouldn't be a factor, but has been seen at 7-7 tournaments around California sporting USC apparel.

This writer for a while thought Scroggins was definitely was coming to Knoxville. Last week I began to waiver from that thought as it appeared that he was going to stay home.

Does this delay change things?

I truly believe that the longer it takes for the decision, the better the Volunteer chances are for pulling off the upset.

Do I believe he is a UT lock, no I don't, but I do believe the long shot could be getting stronger?

There is no doubt who is need of Scroggins the most, ask any Volunteer fan. Hopefully good new will finally arrive next week at Rocky Top.
