Four first-year Vols enrolled last winter and participated in spring practice. They are freshmen Toney Williams, Nigel Mitchell-Thornton (37), Montori Hughes (93) and junior college transfer Rae Sykes (98). Williams, a tailback, will miss the 2009 season with a torn ACL. Mitchell-Thornton plays linebacker, Hughes plays defensive tackle and Sykes plays defensive end.

Two 2009 signees have not yet been approved by the NCAA Clearinghouse and, as a result, do not yet have numbers - freshman wide receiver James Green (Tallahassee, Fla.) and freshman defensive tackle Marlon Walls (Hargrave Military Academy).
