Sources close to the program told InsideTennessee.com that the matter was resolved within minutes of Kiffin's announcement, however. Gordon reportedly attended a team meeting Tuesday evening and will be back on the practice field Wednesday morning.
Fellow freshmen Marlon Walls and James Green have not yet received a green light from the NCAA Clearinghouse and have not yet practiced. Walls is a 6-2, 290-pound defensive tackle from Hargrave Military and Green is a 6-2, 190-pound receiver from Tallahassee.
Gordon, a 5-10, 187-pounder from Nashville, caught 43 passes for 716 yards as a senior at Hillsboro High and rushed for another 510 yards. Rated a four-star cornerback prospect by Scout.com last fall, he was showing some flashes in UT's preseason workouts, including last Saturday's initial scrimmage.
Highlights from Tuesday's workout included:
- Montori Hughes, a 6-4, 312-pound freshman defensive tackle, bumped 5-10, 186-pound freshman tailback David Oku so forcefully in a non-tackling "thud" drill that he sent his classmate flying through the air.
- Star wide receiver Gerald Jones came up limping after making a nice catch in a 7-on-7 drill. Jones was withheld from the final hour of the workout but was walking (albeit gingerly) on his own power.
- Freshman wideout Nu'Keese Richardson took a few snaps as a shotgun quarterback and made the most spectacular catch of the day, soaring to reel in a 20-yard pass from No. 1 quarterback Jonathan Crompton.
- Crompton, coming off probably the best scrimmage of his UT career on Saturday, looked very sharp and very confident again on Tuesday.
