Former Olive Branch Mississippi and Hargrave Military prospect Marlon Walls has been cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse according to multiple sources. Inside Tennessee.com will continue to bring you the latest on the newest Vol, who is apparently headed to Rocky Top as we speak. Lane Kiffin told media Wednesday night that a waiver had been submitted, apparently it wasn't necessary.
Walls is expected to make an immediate impact for Tennessee at the defensive tackle position, a definite area of need for the Volunteers.
Several injuries only had three defensive tackles practicing Wednesday night.
We bring you more on this breaking story as it develops.
InsideTennessee.com reached Walls Thursday afternoon and he stated that he will be at practice in Knoxville on Friday morning.
"I'm ready to get the heck up out of here," Walls said Thursday. "I got the news about 3:00 p.m. when Coach (Ed) Orgeron and Coach (Lane) Kiffin called me and told me to get up here there now."
The University of Tennessee filed a waiver earlier in the week, apparently it worked.
"They had to file a waiver, they got the call today from the NCAA saying I was cleared."
One thing that both coaches stress to Walls was how much the team needed him right away.
"They told me I better be in shape," Walls said. "They told me that needed me to come in and play now."
Has Walls kept himself in shape? "I was out running their linebacker and my brother Greg King earlier this summer," Walls explained. "I'm in great shape, I have been working out every day in hopes I would receive this news, this is news to my ears."
According to Walls he is currently 6-foot-4, and 293-pounds.
"I'm ready to get to Rocky Top," Walls said. "I'm leaving tonight and I will be on the practice field in the morning. Oh yeah I can do back flips, I'm doing them now over the news."
