Negedu 'stable'

Posted Sep 28, 2009

Tennessee associate athletic trainer Chad Newman says Vol basketball player Emmanuel Negedu is in "stable condition" at UT Medical Center after passing out earlier today.

The UT news release also quoted Newman as saying that Negedu will be hospitalized overnight for observation.

Emmanuel Negedu, a 6-foot-7, 218-pound sophomore forward from Keduna, Nigeria, reportedly collapsed shortly after completing a workout at the Neyland-Thompson sports complex.

Negedu, averaged 7.2 minutes, 1.9 points and 1.7 rebounds per game as a freshman in 2008-09. He shot 47 percent from the field, 80 percent from the foul line and quickly became a crowd favorite because of his athleticism and hustle.

Negedu was one of the breakout players in the Rocky Top Summer League in June, scoring 38 and 23 points in his final two outings. He appears primed for a big sophomore season with the Vols.
