The Vols got off on the wrong foot (literally) when Chad Cunningham's opening kickoff dribbled out of bounds, giving Ole Miss the ball at its 40-yard line. Four plays later the Rebels led 7-0, thanks to a 15-yard run by Dexter McCluster. Tennessee pulled even when Jonathan Crompton hit Jeff Cottam from 16 yards out to cap a three-play, 51-yard drive but Ole Miss answered with a 73-yard TD drive. McCluster got the TD on a 23-yard run out of the Wild Rebel formation, giving Ole Miss a 14-7 lead.
KEY PLAY

Ole Miss' second TD drive was sustained when Ferbia Allen made a leaping catch of a Jevan Snead pass on third-and-one at the Rebel 38-yard line. Without that lunging grab, Ole Miss punts the ball away. Instead, it scored four plays later to go up 14-7.

KEY PLAYER

McCluster. He scored on runs of 15 and 23 yards and also had an 18-yard reception in the quarter.

KEY STAT

Ole Miss outgained the Vols 141 to 50 in yards and piled up eight first downs to UT's two.

Tennessee tied the score at 14 when Crompton hit Denarius Moore from 25 yards away to cap an 11-play, 70-yard drive. Ole Miss answered with an eight-play, 75-yard march capped by a 32-yard run by McCluster - again operating out of the Wild Rebel formation. The Rebels missed a chance to extend the lead when Joshua Shene missed a 28-yard field goal just before halftime.
KEY PLAY

Shene's missed field goal. That kept the Vols within a score and kept Ole Miss from riding a surge of momentum into halftime.

KEY PLAYER

McCluster (who else?) He carried seven times for 97 yards in the quarter, caught a four-yard pass and scored the period's only touchdown.

KEY STAT

At the half Tennessee had 133 yards of total offense as a team. McCluster had 188 all-purpose yards as an individual.

The Vols closed to 21-17 when Daniel Lincoln hit a 27-yard field goal on the opening possession of the quarter. Tackle Wes Brown intercepted at the Ole Miss 43-yard line but UT turned the ball over on downs at the Rebel 38. Ole Miss then went 62 yards in 13 plays - Brandon Bolden scoring from a yard out to bump the lead to 28-17.
KEY PLAY

There were two key plays in the quarter and both went against Tennessee. The first came on second-and-three at the Ole Miss 5-yard line with UT trailing 21-14. Montario Hardesty was thrown for a five-yard loss and UT settled for a field goal instead of a game-tying TD. The second key play came after Brown's interception. Down 21-17 and facing a third-and-two at the Ole Miss 35-yard line, Hardesty was dumped for a two-yard loss. UT turned the ball over on downs one play later.

KEY PLAYER

Bolden. He picked up six yards on third-and-six at the UT 8-yard line, then got the key touchdown from a yard out two plays later.

KEY STAT

Tennessee limited McCluster to 28 yards on seven carries in the quarter but managed just 3 points and fell further behind.

McCluster sealed Tennessee's doom with a 71-yard touchdown run on the third play of the quarter that boosted the lead to 35-17. Lincoln had a 46-yard field goal blocked, then Ole Miss added a 4-yard TD run by Bolden with 2:31 remaining to secure the final margin.
KEY PLAY

McCluster's TD run. The Vols still had some hopes - however faint - of rallying up to that point.

KEY PLAYER

McCluster. He was the whole show for the whole game.

KEY STAT

McCluster ran for 25 times for 282 yards, most allowed by a Tennessee defense in program history.
