One of the state's top athletes wanted to take time out of his busy schedule to get to know a certain coaching staff a little better.

Memphis Central's Cameron Clear took an unexpected visit to Knoxville on Sunday evening to take a tour of the Tennessee campus on Monday morning.

"It was a great trip," Clear told InsideTennessee.com. "I liked it a lot. I really liked the new coaching staff."

Clear and his father spent the morning visiting the campus, allowing the Memphis resident to revisit a few old friends.

"I got a chance to hang out with Marlon Walls and Greg King," Clear said. "This was a chance for me to get to know the coaching staff a little better."

Did Clear come close to making a decision?

"No, I'm not going to make a decision until after I take all five official visits," Clear said. "Tennessee will definitely get one of my five official visits."

Although Clear didn't name a favorite, he did acknowledge that Tennessee is sitting in good shape after the visit.

"Most definitely, Tennessee is up there towards the top," Clear said. "It's a great place, a great campus and I really clicked well with the coaching staff. I can see myself playing for Coach Dooley, he is the type of coach I wouldn't mind being around the next four years or so."
