What follows is a quarter-by-quarter recap of South Carolina's 27-6 defeat of Tennessee Saturday night in Columbia:

On the first play of the quarte Carolina's Stoney Woodson intercepted a deep out Stephens intended for Briscoe and returned it 68 yards for a touchdown that gave SC a 14-0 lead. Jonathan Crompton replaced Stephens for the next two Vol series. Later in the quarter Captain Munnerlyn scooped up a Lennon Creer fumble and raced 40 yards to the UT 4-yard line. On the very next play Garcia hit Kenny McKinley with a quick slant pass for a touchdown and a 21-0 lead.

Woodson's interception. Tennessee was driving for a touchdown that could've tied the score. Instead of 7-7, Woodson's pick produced a 14-point swing and gave SC a 14-0 lead. UT never recovered.

Munnerlyn. In addition to his 40-yard fumble return, he recovered a ball that bounded off a teammate following a Britton Colquitt punt.

Tennessee opened the half with a 49-yard pass from Stephens to Austin Rogers but eventually gave the ball up on downs at the SC. 24-yard line. The Gamecocks then launched a 13-play drive Ryan Succop capped with a 31-yard field goal, padding the lead to 24-0. UT responded with an 80-yard drive that ended with a one-yard Arian Foster touchdown dive. Stephens was sacked on a two-point conversion try, leaving the score at 24-6. Eric Berry returned an interception 47 yards on the second play of SC's ensuing possession but Stephens was stopped two inches short on a fourth-and-18 inches sneak at the Gamecock 35-yard line.

Stephens' foiled sneak. Down 24-6 with 20 minutes left, the Vols still had a chance to get back in the game until that play gave the ball back to South Carolina.

Vol receiver Austin Rogers. He caught two passes in the quarter, a 49-yarder and a 15-yarder on the Vols' TD drive.

A fumble by Vol punt return man Dennis Rogan was recovered by South Carolina at the UT 14-yard line. Three plays later Succop booted another 31-yard field goal to secure the final margin.

With 10 minutes left a 10-yard pass from Stephens to Lucas Taylor was nullified by an illegal-formation call. The Vols had to punt the ball away two plays later and didn't get it back until 5:36 remained.
