| David Reaves enters his second season as a full-time member of the South Carolina coaching staff after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant. He will assist Steve Spurrier in coaching the Gamecock quarterbacks after spending the 2004 season as Carolina's Defensive Backs Assistant working with the safeties. In 2004, Reaves coached Ko Simpson, who made six interceptions and ranked second on the team with 61 tackles en route to earning SEC Freshman of the Year and Freshman All-America honors. Reaves was assistant head coach at Tampa (Fla.) Catholic High School for one season prior to coming to Carolina. He was team captain and a three-year starter at quarterback for Appalachian State University, where he helped lead the Mountaineers to three straight national playoff berths. Reaves was a standout quarterback at Columbia's Spring Valley High School, where he graduated from in 1996. Reaves comes from a football family. His father, John, was an All-America quarterback at the University of Florida and later played in the NFL. John Reaves served as an assistant coach under Steve Spurrier at Florida from 1990-92 and in 1994 and was on the coaching staff at South Carolina from 1996-97. David's younger brother, Stephen, plays quarterback at Michigan State University. |
